The granddaddy of them all, Vodafone is the longest-running network in the UK, having first launched in 1985, back in the days of yuppies and Del-boy ‘brick phones’. Since then, Vodafone have been one of the most recognisable names in the world of communications and they’re actually ranked as the second largest mobile telecoms group in the WORLD, just after China Mobile.

And to think, it all started when Ernie Wise (yes, the Ernie Wise) made the first call on a mobile phone, in the world, EVER. Over the next 15 years, Vodafone would go on to become the biggest network in the world. At the turn of the millennium, some dedicated statistician went out and worked out that every second person in the world had a mobile phone and a third of those were connected through Vodafone.
