We compare mobile phone deals from all the major retailers, giving you all the help you need to find the perfect deal. You need to make an informed choice so we’ll give you everything you need, including all the info about Virgin Mobile.
Virgin Mobile have always stood for innovation and having an innovative deal to offer you, the customer. On top of this, they need innovative mobile phones based on the obvious idea that people don’t want rubbish phones, so that’s why Virgin Mobile has mobile phones like the LG Viewty. This has been one of the big sellers of the past few years and we’d argue that it’s one of the highest selling mobile phones ever! Mind you, with that unique, feature-laden 5 megapixel camera and a full touchscreen interface, it’s not hard to see why.
Another fundamental principle Virgin Mobile are built on is ‘value’ so you find that their own exclusive mobile phones offer superb value. Phones like the entry-level Lobster 320, that somehow manages to be both dirt cheap and fantastically nice. It might seem to be a paradox, but with camera and super-sleek shiny body, the Lobster phone (with a logo that’s REALLY in the shape of a lobster) pulls it off.
But anyway, back to innovation, did you know that Virgin Mobile were one of the first networks to get hold of an innovative new phone by Samsung? That phone is, of course, the awesome Samsung U900 Soul, with an amazing touchpad interface, glorious 5 megapixel camera and superb music player, all wrapped up in one of the sexiest bodies EVER seen on a mobile phone!
The history of Virgin Mobile
To be strictly accurate, Virgin Mobile are what’s known as an MVNO, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, or to give them the name it always gets shortened to (because MVNO sounds like an army acronym, and the other one is just too long), a virtual network.
But what’s a virtual network? Well, it’s simple. All the mobile phone masts you see out there in the UK are put up by the big five networks. So, those five build their own infrastructure. What a virtual network like Virgin Mobile does is to not build their own masts, but piggyback on someone else’s. In the case of Virgin Mobile, they piggy-back on top of T-Mobile’s masts, meaning that wherever you get coverage on T-Mobile, you’ll get coverage on Virgin Mobile.
Of course, you may well ask why T-mobile would let them do that. Simple, Virgin Mobile was originally a joint venture between Virgin and T-Mobile, whom the Virgin Group later bought out!
Of course, what Virgin Mobile have traditionally been known for is pay as you go and indeed they still offer a VAST range of pay as you go mobile phones on unique offerings designed to give you the best value, but, what they also offer are pay monthly deals and once again, they’re built around giving you the best value possible.
Nowadays, Virgin Mobile is part of the larger Virgin Media group, a group that combines mobile phones AND landline phones AND broadband internet AND digital TV, or, as it’s become known, quad play. Something that lets you get all those four things from the same provider has got to make your life even easier!
