About Sony Ericsson
You want a Sony Ericsson phone? Well, we can help, by comparing mobile phone deals from around the country, and from all the biggest and best retailers. You need to make an informed choice, and we’ll help you do that, as well as giving you everything you need to know about Sony Ericsson.
Sony Ericsson’s strategy lies in having very clear product lines, and giving each one a distinct identity. So, for example, you have Sony Ericsson Cyber-Shot phones (their camera phones), and Sony Ericsson Walkman phones (their music-player phones).
So, which mobile phones in each category have caught our eye? Well, if we’re talking Sony Ericsson Cyber-Shot phones, there’s one clear winner at the minute, and that’s the Sony Ericsson K850i, with 5 megapixel camera. It’s not just any 5 megapixel camera, mind, it has Cyber-Shot technology, giving it really sharp lenses, autofocus, image stabiliser and, most importantly, xenon flash. As in a proper flash, like you’d get on a proper camera. No wonder, then, that the Sony Ericsson K850i is one of the best camera phones in the country!
Sony Ericsson’s music phones come off just as well, though. Well, they would, since they’re built round the awesome Walkman player, one of the most famous names in personal music ever. There’re two mobile phones that really stand out, the first being the one that was voted mobile phone of the year, 2007: the Sony Ericsson W910i. With a sleek, sliding body, super-fast internet and superb 3 megapixel camera, it’s gorgeous as a phone in its own right. But it’s the music player that’s the killer feature on this beauty. With the latest Walkman 3.0 player come new advances, not least Shake Controls (simply jiggle the phone about to change tracks) and SensMe (you tell the phone what mood you’re in; it works out what songs fit your mood, just by looking at their tempo, what key they’re in, how smooth or racing they are… pure genius!)
Of course, it’s not the flagship of the Walkman range, though, because THAT honour goes to the awesome Sony Ericsson W960i, the king of music phones. With 3 megapixel camera, and Walkman 3.0 music player, you might think it’s not that different… until you realise it has an amazing, beautiful touchscreen. Built around Symbian UIQ, this really is the perfect marriage between music phone and smartphone, giving you the best music playback you can imagine, combined with a FULL internet browser, and the ability to add on loads of new software. It’s simply amazing!
The history of Sony Ericsson
Sony Ericsson is the result of a joint venture in 2001 between two massive names: Swedish telecommunications giant, Ericsson; and Japanese electronics giant, Sony. The result is a manufacturer who has gone on to release some of the most powerful phones seen, and take up its place as the second biggest mobile phone maker in the UK, Sony Ericsson.
Since then, they’ve gone to really innovate in the world of mobile phones. One of the first phones they brought out, after the Sony Ericsson joint venture started, was the P800, one of our earliest glimpses of a touchscreen smartphone, and believe it or not, Sony Ericsson’s first phone in the UK with a built-in camera.
Of course, if we’re talking firsts, then the first brand that Sony Ericsson nicked from one of Sony’s product ranges, and welded onto a phone, was the Walkman brand, grafted onto the Sony Ericsson W800i. Even then, the amazing potential of the Walkman phone was apparent, so it’s not really a big surprise that it’s gone on to be one of their most popular lines.
Of course, the other big one is the Cyber-Shot brand, shamelessly added from Sony’s range of cool cameras. And the first one to carry that brand was the Sony Ericsson K800i, a 3 megapixel beastie with xenon flash that set out the roadmap for what Cyber-Shot phones would be like.
Sony Ericsson’s ethos is very much to split their phones into distinct product lines, and focus any phone in that line heavily on what its reason for existence is. So, we have W-series Walkman music phones. We Cyber-Shot camera phones (formerly in the ‘K-series’, and now moving towards their own range, the C-series). We have P-series super-powered PDA-phones. And now, the X-series Xperia phones, the ultimate in convergence devices. Sony Ericsson truly are unstoppable!

Review of the W910i Black by Lerato from Garsfontein
I just got my w910i 4 days ago. I was really impressed with the features it has and happy with it till last night. When i connected it to the charger, it went blank. It was totally off and wouldnt respond to me pressing any button or the power button. After about a minute the screen back on againg. Didnt like that one bit. This morning when i connected the earphones, the same thing happend again. I am flabbergasted, i have never owned a sony ericsson before. Is this normal or is the something seriously wrong with the phone. Really disappointed.
