About Orange

Do you want to grab yourself a bargain that’ll make your future bright, your future Orange? We compare Orange mobile phone deals from all the major retailers, giving you all the help you need to find the perfect deal. You need to make an informed choice so we’ll give you everything you need, including all the info about Orange.

As one of the big five networks in the UK, Orange have massive amounts of power with manufacturers. They get to say not only “we want that phone”, but also, “we want it in a mad colour”. This is why Orange have such a big range of different colour variants on some of the top selling mobile phones. Want an example? The Samsung U600 Purple, a glorious little phone that combines all the cool features of its siblings, and clothes them all in a vibrant, purple shell, that really does look stunning.

Of course, not all of Orange’s exclusive mobile phones are as extrovert as that. How about the Sony Ericsson W910i Red, the sexy, slidy Walkman phone that won the title of Phone of the Year 2007. It’s easy to see why, with its great 3 megapixel camera, super-fast internet, and THAT amazing Walkman 3.0 music player. Tie all that up in a sleek, red body and this exclusive mobile phone becomes a real winner!

The thing that goes along side by side with mobile phones nowadays is, of course, mobile broadband, and Orange are no strangers to this, either! You just need to check out their ICON 225 USB Modem, to see that. It’s broadband-fast, it’s ultra-compact, there’re no huge great wires ANYWHERE to get tangled up, and it looks rather sexy, too!

The history of Orange

As the fourth oldest network in the UK, Orange was founded in 1994 by France Télécom. Known throughout the country as the network with the big orange square for a logo, Orange have always been the grand masters of doing things that little bit differently to their rivals.

Take for example their tariffs. Ok, great value and so on, but what we’re really talking about here is the names. Can you imagine any of the other mobile phone networks calling their price plans ‘Canary’ or ‘Dolphin’? As tariff names go, those are pretty unique!

And that’s what really sets Orange apart, the fact that they seem to make marketing decisions and product decisions that at first defy logic, but then, as you think about that some more, they make you grin and go, “Ohhhhhhhh, I get it!”

Of course, as with the other networks though, Orange also sponsors a lot of stuff outside mobile phones. That’s pretty common though, with Vodafone it’s the cricket, with O2 it’s that big arena… and with Orange, it’s the cinema. A sizeable number of people will have heard of Orange Wednesdays, a scheme that lets you order cinema tickets for a Wednesday night showing of a film, through texts, and in doing so, get two tickets for the price of one!

But of course, the thing most people will think about when they link together film and Orange are those trailers. You know the ones. The ones that come on just before the film, with various famous movie stars (including Darth Vader, Rob Lowe and Mini-Me out Austin Powers), pitching various ideas to the American guy who acts as the voice of Orange. You know the ones we mean, the mental and really clever ones. Only somebody like Orange could come up with that!

Oh, and they also sponsor the BAFTAs.
