So, who are HTC, and what cool stuff have they got to offer you? Well, how about the coolest mobile phone they’ve offered so far, the HTC Touch? It marks a new generation of Windows Mobile phones, ones that still give you all the high-end features you’ve come to expect from Windows (expect to get a 2 megapixel camera, full Office suite and more options for making your life easier than you can shake a stick at!), but taking the cool factor to a whole new level! And with that full touchscreen interface, letting you do anything you want on this HTC phone, with just a brush of your fingertips, it really is startlingly nice to use!

Maybe you want something a bit more serious, and a bit more focused on features instead of looks? Then you’re looking at the HTC TyTN II, the Touch’s big brother. It still features the ultra powerful Windows Mobile interface, and it still gives you all the benefits that brings. Full Office compatibility, full internet access, email and, this time, a wonderful 3 megapixel camera, all ready for you to use, wherever you are. Combine a slide out QWERTY keyboard (making typing messages incredibly easy) and a tilting screen (meaning you can type on it just like a laptop) and it makes this HTC into one awesomely powerful mobile phone.

However, if touchscreens aren’t your thing? What if you want all that power, but you don’t want a touchscreen? Well, there’s a solution, with the great little HTC S730. Yet again, you get the same powerhouse Windows Mobile interface, but this time, it’s tied to a more normal-shaped mobile phone, with a normal (albeit high-contrast and beautiful) screen, a normal keypad, and you can use it just like a normal mobile phone. Then, of course, you can slide out the QWERTY keyboard from the side, watch the screen shift 90 degrees, and see it become a true mini-PC in your hand!

The history of HTC

A relative newcomer to the world of mobile phones, HTC have made an awesome splash since they were founded in 1997. Back in ye olde days of the late 90’s, HTC first arrived on the scene as an outsourcing company, as somebody making mobile devices that somebody else would then stick their own branding on. If you want some examples of that, cast your mind back to some of the key Windows-based mobile phones we’ve seen in the UK. The O2 XDA. The T-Mobile MDA. The Orange SPV. Not to mention all the later, Windows-based incarnations in those series.

All of them were made by HTC.

That’s how HTC started out, as an ODM, an Original Design Manufacturer, which is basically, someone who designs and builds the mobile phone, which is then sold under someone else’s branding.

It wouldn’t stay like that for long, though, because to compliment their ODM products, HTC also launched their own branded mobile phones. It was when that happened that HTC became an even more major player in the mobile industry. The range expanded, and as they used Windows Mobile more and more, they began to make their own refinements, including the TouchFlo interface, powered by Windows Mobile, but with radically different looks, designed to give you full control, and make your experience of using the phone so much nicer.

So, that’s what HTC do, but who are they? Well, as noted, they were founded in 1997, and they’re actually based in Taiwan, where their chairperson is Cher Wang, daughter of one of Taiwan’s wealthiest men. Throughout their life, they’ve consistently grown, and penetrated even further into the market. That’s only going to get more so, because with new Windows Mobile phones and ultra-brand-new Google Android mobile phones on the cards for HTC, the future is looking very exciting indeed!

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, the name HTC stands for High Tech Computers. Simple but effective, eh!

Review of the Ted Baker Needle by Lj from UK

I bought this phone nearly 6 months ago now and have had very few worries. The only problems i have had with it is that when the battery runs down the predictive text bar goes all fuzzy and you cant see the words you want to spell, and if you dont let the battery run out when this happens it will remain doing this.

Review of the Diamond by James Love from London

No question this phone is packed with features but so are a lot of phones out there, lets face it the phone market is very competative and other phones are similar in features, the thing that really lets this phone down is the quality, it feels cheap and concerned will break easily
