As you may know, of the big five, 3 Mobile are the youngest network in the UK, the baby of the bunch, as it were. They went live with their mobile phones and with their network in 2003. What also set 3 Mobile apart was their handset range, including mobile phones not seen on any other network but 3. That wasn’t necessarily a good thing at the time, as those original handsets weren’t the best. But what was clear was that 3 were talking a lot of sense in their network offerings; people flocked to get these new-fangled video services! Yes, that’s right, 3 Mobile were the first network to offer video downloads at a fast speed, instead of waiting 9 years (an approximate average from the time) for the video to come through to your mobile phone. Tie that in with video calling and it gave 3 Mobile something utterly unique to sell their services on.

Of course, it was never going to be long before the other networks caught up, so it was clear 3 Mobile needed something else to innovate with after they’d set a trend with 3G. That something was mobile broadband and 3 were one of the first networks to recognise a simple fact: mobile broadband is rapidly changing the future of the internet. The ability to take your super fast broadband connection with you is something truly wonderful and 3 Mobile are one of the forerunners of that movement.
